Wayne Leon Nicholls Obituary (1940 - 2013)

Wayne Leon Nicholls, 73, of Blue Mound, IL passed away at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday (Dec. 8, 2013) after a long courageous battle with cancer. Services to celebrate Leon's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday (Dec. 12, 2013) at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Blue Mound. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be in Hall Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society or DMH Hospice. Leon was born on May 26, 1940 in Decatur, IL, the son of Wayne and Hallie Adeline (Oliver) Nicholls. He was a 1958 graduate of Blue Mound High School and a member of the First Christian Church of Blue Mound. He retired from Mueller Co. in 1999 at an early age. He married Betty Miller on June 5, 1959. Fishing was his life and he spent many hours on Lake Shelbyville, Clinton Lake and surrounding hot spots with his fishing buddies. His other hobbies included hunting, gardening, playing cards with family and friends, going to auctions and collecting his antique fishing lures. But most of all was his love for his grandchildren, Katie, Kara and Hayden. He spent many hours watching all their sporting events. Surviving are his children: Dana Damery and her husband Brad of Blue Mound, IL, Tod Nicholls of Decatur, IL; former wife: Betty Nicholls of Macon, IL; his 3 pride and joys, grandchildren: Katie Nicholls, Kara Nicholls and Hayden Damery; sisters: Janet Damery and her husband Dean of Blue Mound, IL, Anne Byard of Blue Mound, IL; brother: Dick Nicholls and his wife Soni of Decatur, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to thank each and every one for their prayers, visits, and many acts of kindness during this difficult time. We would also like to thank Dr. Kairouz and staff at Cancer Care and the hospice nurses for all their care. They made a heart breaking time just a bit easier by their caring and compassion.
