Susan Marie Mitchell Dyer Obituary (1951 - 2013)

Susan Marie Mitchell Dyer, 62, of Decatur, IL passed away on Saturday (March 2, 2013) at Decatur Memorial Hospital. A memorial service to celebrate Susan's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday (March 9, 2013) at South Shores Christian Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Asia Christian Services, 9378 Mason Montgomery Road Suite 326 Mason, OH 45040-8827. Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements. Mrs. Dyer was born on January 15, 1951 in Bessemer Township-Gogebic County in the city of Ironwood, MI. Susan was a descendant of the earliest settlers in Canada. She is the daughter of John and Ruth (Beauchamp) Mitchell. Susan graduated from L. L. Wright High School with the class of 1969. She received a bachelor and master degree from the University of Michigan. She taught math and science at Rockford, MI and Finneytown, OH. At the University of Kentucky she worked for a professor typing in French a math book to be published. Susan was a member of South Shores Christian Church and Decatur Quilters Guild. She served on the board for Asia Christian Services and the Rotary Youth Exchange committee. Susan married David R. Dyer on June 12, 1976. Surviving is her husband: David R. Dyer of Decatur, IL; parents: John and Ruth Mitchell; daughter: Gail Jean Dyer of Elmira, NY; sisters: Beatrice (Don) Frol, Marilyn (Robert) Krause; uncles: Ray (Kathleen) Beauchamp, Thomas Mitchell; aunts: Betty (Robert) Zorich, JoAnn Reinholtz; great aunt: Iris Brown; many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
