Shirley K Underwood Obituary (1936 - 2014)

Shirley K. Underwood 78, of Mt. Zion, IL passed away with her children, daughter-in-law and son-in-law by her side at 5:46 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 in St. Mary's Hospital. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 5, 2015, in the Mt. Zion Township Cemetery with Jerry David Underwood officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion is assisting the family with arrangements. Shirley was born September 6, 1936, in Decatur, IL the daughter of Henry F. and Tena (Stone) Holderness. As a young girl, Shirley loved to play tennis at Lion's Park. Later in life she enjoyed playing golf with her husband Harry. Early in her work career, she worked for Caterpillar and later went on to work at Borg-Warner (York Division). She married Harry L Underwood on November 30, 1957 in Peoria, IL. She was a loving wife and mother. Shirley truly enjoyed many friendships in life and loved people stopping in to see her. Surviving are her children: Kayla Pratt of Decatur, Kevin Underwood and his wife Kathy of Mt. Zion, Kim Kiger and her husband Dave of Decatur; sister: Eileen Marshall and her husband James of Bethany; grandchildren: Crystal Pratt of Decatur, Josh Pratt of Decatur, Andy Underwood and his wife Brooke of St. Louis, MO, Alisha Underwood and Jason Szymkowiak of Decatur; great grandchildren: Skyler Pratt and Maelee Szymkowiak; brother-in-laws: Dick Underwood and his wife Betty, Jerry Underwood and his wife Patti all of Mt.
