Robert James Banning Obituary (1943 - 2015)

Robert James Banning, 71, of Decatur passed away on Thursday (July 16, 2015) at Decatur Memorial Hospital. A memorial service to celebrate and honor his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Elwin United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. A private family burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery at a later date. Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements. Memorials can be made to the Special Olympics Area #10 or Elwin United Methodist Church. Robert was born on September 10, 1943 in Decatur, IL the son of Vallie Ted and Jeanette (Yaegal) Banning. He married Marjorie Thompson on August 5, 1967. He was a member of Elwin United Methodist Church. He is a retired custodian for Pla-Mor Lanes. Robert really enjoyed watching his daughter compete in the Special Olympics, loved to have coffee with his mom and spending time with his family. Surviving is his mother: Jeanette of Decatur; wife: Marjorie of Decatur; daughter: Pam Banning of Decatur, IL; sister: Valerian (Larry) Weddle of Decatur, IL; brother: Larry (Sandy) Banning of California; several nieces and nephews also survive.
