Richard E. "Dick" Strocher Obituary (1929 - 2015)

Richard E. "Dick" Strocher, 86, of Decatur, IL passed away at 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Eastview Terrace, Sullivan, IL. A graveside service to celebrate Richard's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at North Fork Cemetery. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Richard was born on September 18, 1929 in Decatur, IL, the son of William F. and Frieda (Nadoini) Strocher. He proudly served in Japan with the U.S. Army. Richard married Frances Anne Gillen on July 22, 1949. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2009. He worked at A.E. Staley Manufacturing Co. for 38 years in plant protection, retiring in 1993. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church when he was a young man. He also was a member of the Staley Smoke Eaters softball team. Richard was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls and St. Louis Cardinals. Richard is survived by his daughter: Jami Hunter and her husband Mark of Decatur, IL; sister: Norma Jean Doyle of Decatur, IL; sister-in-law: Sue Binder of Hammond, IL; grandchildren: Shane Strocher and his wife Sheri, Stephanie Crowe and her fiance Jose Munoz, Alyssa Ballard and her husband Derek, Brandon Hunter and his wife Kelci, Brett Hunter and Breann Hunter and her boyfriend Shane Conaway; great grandchildren: Makenzi Crowe, Sage Strocher, Taylor Carlson, Lexi Gossett, Madeliene Ballard, Maliyah Hunter, James Ballard, Makayle Hunter and Kade Munoz.
