Rachel Severe Allen Obituary (1981 - 2015)

Rachel Severe Allen 34, of Kenosha, WI, formerly of Mt. Zion, IL passed away Friday, April 10, 2015, after a brave seven year battle against breast cancer. A service to celebrate Rachel's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2015, in Heartland Community Church, Decatur, IL with Pastor Joe Bowman officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery, Assumption, IL. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. Thursday evening until 8:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jase Michael Allen College Fund or Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com. Rachel was a 1999 graduate of Mt. Zion High School and furthered her education at Illinois State University obtaining her Master's degree from National Louis University in Education. Rachel was an elite athlete playing softball, volleyball, and basketball throughout her career. She was an award winning softball pitcher who made life-long friendships on and off the field. Rachel was the 2010 District #6 Star Teacher Award Recipient in Zion, IL as she had a profound impact on the lives of her students. Her love for sports and devotion toward students led her to achieve a successful coaching career as well. She loved watching the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs games. Rachel was married to the love of her life John Allen on June 25, 2011. They were blessed with their son, Jase Michael, on December 23, 2014. The birth of Jase fulfilled Rachel and John's, ultimate dream of becoming a family. The joy John and Jase brought into Rachel's life was evident to everyone around her and will live on eternally. Rachel's valiant fight against breast cancer was done with strength, courage, and a radiant smile on her face. She not only inspired those who surrounded her, but also encourage many to live life to the fullest. Rachel was born on March 4, 1981 in Decatur, the loving daughter of Mike and Sharree (Auton) Severe. She is survived by her husband: John Allen; son: Jase Michael Allen; parents Mike and Sharree Severe; sister: Angie Severe; grandmother: Maxine Auton; soul sister: Julie Papas; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Julie was a tremendous sister to Rachel through all of this. She went to all the treatments and supported Rachel to the fullest. She was proceeded in death by her grandmother: Sally Severe.
