Phyllis June (Hohrein) Janes Obituary (1926 - 2013)

Phyllis June (Hohrein) Janes, 86, joined other family members with our Father in Heaven on September 14, 2013. A service to celebrate Phyllis's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013 at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning until service time. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul's Catholic School, Highland, IL or the Hospice of Southern Illinois. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com. She was daughter of Phillip L. and H. June (Casley) Hohrein, and graduated from Decatur High School in 1943. She worked as a secretary at A.E. Staley Co. and married Arthur V. Janes in 1948. After divorcing in 1968, she worked as secretary for a bishop of the Lutheran church, as secretary at Soy Capital Bank, as assistant director of the Community Home Environmental Learning Project (CHELP), and retired from work at Kelly Services. Phyllis was beloved mother of five, and also grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and great-aunt to many, with nothing more important to her than time spent with family. She was especially proud of her involvement with the Masonic Order of the Eastern Star, and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was a member of First Lutheran Church. A testament to her great wit, she had always said that after retiring from her work life, she would like to volunteer as a museum guide because she could then have included in her obituary that she had been a "decent docent." Phyllis was a resident of Decatur, except the last six years of her life where she lived with daughter Leigh in Highland, IL. She is survived by son Mark R. Janes of Normal, Leigh P. Janes of Highland, son Timothy T. Janes and son-in-law Javier Balderas of Arlington, VA, and daughter-in-law Debbie Janes of Decatur. Sons Scott A. and David A. Janes preceded her in death. Her sister Margaret Anne Gardner lives in Concord, CA, and devoted cousin Martha Bang of Littleton, CO.
