Phyllis J Carleton Obituary (1927 - 2014)

Phyllis J. Carleton, 87, of Decatur passed away on Thursday (Nov. 6, 2014) at St. Mary's Hospital. A service to celebrate Phyllis's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 11, 2014) at Dawson & Wikoff North Chapel with visitation 30 minutes prior to service time. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Good Samaritan Inn, Salvation Army or Grace United Methodist Church. Phyllis was born on July 6, 1927 the daughter of George and Gladys (Turner) Barnett. She worked as a bookkeeper for the Herald & Review, Gambels and most recently Donnelly Automotive. Phyllis was married to Albert Combs on January 11, 1948. She later married Dean Carleton on January 2, 1989, who preceded her in death in February 4, 2005. She loved to spend her time reading, cross stitching, crocheting, hiking, cooking as well as fishing. She enjoyed being out and about but most importantly loved her time at gatherings with her family and grandchildren. Surviving are her daughters: Andrea Smith and her husband Ron of Decatur, IL Janet Aikman and her husband Bill of Decatur, IL; grandchildren: Stephanie Roney and her husband David of Greer, SC; Aaron Smith and his wife Lisa of Huntersville, NC; Kevin Smith of Normal, IL; Ryan Aikman of Decatur, IL; Chris Aikman and his wife Jennie of Monticello, IL; great-grandchildren: Allyson Roney, Katelyn Roney, Daci Roney, Hunter Smith, Ryleigh Smith, Marissa Aikman and Callie Aikman, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard Barnett.
