Oliver W Mauzy Obituary (1921 - 2014)

Oliver W. Mauzy, 92, of Decatur, IL passed away on Friday (Jan. 31, 2014) at St. Mary's Hospital. A service to celebrate Oliver's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday (Feb 6, 2014) at Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials can be made to Homeward Bound Pet Shelter. Oliver was born on February 23, 1921 in Shelby, Ohio the son of Oliver and Eva (Becker) Mauzy. He grew up in the Chicago area. He married Helen Friedrich on March 28, 1945 in Miami Beach, FL. She preceded him in death in 1999. Oliver proudly served in the Army Air Corps in the Guadalcanal Campaign during WWII. He was also stationed in New Zealand as well as Miami Beach. He was an inspector for Borg Warner until his retirement in 1983 and was the former chairman at Marvel-York Credit Union. He was also a former Director of the Illinois Credit Union League. He enjoyed watching trains with his fellow railfan friends and enjoyed the trips they took together. Surviving is his son: Christopher Mauzy and wife Linda; grandchildren: Stephen P. and Christine L.
