Muriel "Merle" D. Pierce Obituary (1931 - 2017)

Muriel Merle D. Pierce, 85, of Decatur passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. A graveside service to celebrate and honor his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2017 in Zion Cemetery, Boody, IL. Dawson & Wikoff West Wood Street Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangments. Merle was born on October 15, 1931 in Schram City, IL the son of Robert and Minnie Pierce. He retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company after 31 years. Merle proudly served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper/medic in the Korean War. He was a member of the Macon County Board. Surviving is his wife, Joan; daughter: Sheryl (Leonard) Mason of Decatur, IL; son: Merle (Gretchen) Pierce of Canton, IL; six grandchildren: John Mason, Richard Pierce, Nattalie Pierce, Rachael Pierce, Sally McClure and Crystal Schultz. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Thomas and Lennie; sisters: Opal, Violet, Nancy, Millie and Irma.
