Luther Wayne "Red" Martin 91, of Champaign, IL formerly of Mt. Zion, IL passed away at 7:35 a.m., Friday, November 6, 2015, in Memorial Medical Center Springfield, IL. A service to celebrate Red's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Township Cemetery with military honors provided by the Macon County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Red was born March 12, 1924, in Macon County, IL the son of Luther E. and Mammie (Cook) Martin. He married Dorothy Crain on May 21, 1945. She preceded him in death on September 25, 2010. He retired in 1985 as the superintendent of gas operations for Illinois Power Company. He had served in the US Marine Corp and was a W.W. II veteran. Red was a member of the American Legion Post #105 and the VFW Post #91. Red and his wife were season ticket holders of the Illini in both basketball and football since 1966. Surviving are his nieces: Mary Fran Clark of Biloxi, MS and Sharon Annis (Barney) of Pacifica, CA; nephews: David Martin of Springfield, IL, Brad Martin of San Francisco, CA; Chester Martin of Vancouver, WA, and Jamie Ryan of Dallas, TX; sisters-in-law: Toni Martin and Elaine Martin; several great nieces and nephews, many great-great nieces and nephews, and many special friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two sisters and five brothers.
