Larry Douglas Janes Obituary (1943 - 2015)

Larry Douglas Janes died Feb. 6, 2015. Larry was born Aug. 27, 1943 in Mattoon, IL. He attended the Air Force Academy and graduated from Midwestern University, Wichita Falls, TX where he was a proud member of the KA fraternity. He earned his Masters' and Specialist degrees from Eastern IL. University, Charleston, IL and his Doctorate from Illinois State University, Normal, IL. Larry was a teacher and coach in Mattoon, IL, principal in Palestine, IL. Principal and Superintendent in Nokomis, IL, Superintendent in Pecatonica, IL. And professor at Eastern Illinois University. Larry was a consultant for the Illinois Principal's Association, Springfield, IL and authored over 100 articles. He did volunteer work for the Illinois Crime Commission. Larry loved being an educator and touched many lives. He loved football, baseball, gardening and pets. In accordance with Larry's wishes, he will be cremated. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at his home on Sat. Feb. 14, 2015 from 2-5 pm. Larry is survived by his wife, Barbara, sister Kay Giammetta and husband David of Macon GA., cousin Janie Anderson of Mattoon, IL and many special nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his mother Kathleen Authenreith, step-mother Leah Janes, father T.V. Janes and favorite dogs, Moose and Rags.
