Kathy Ann Deckard Obituary (1948 - 2013)

Kathy Ann Deckard, 65, of Mount Zion, died at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 26, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital. A service to celebrate Kathy's life will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home Mount Zion, IL with Rev. Ted Hartley officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Kathy Ann was born on January 13, 1948, in Mattoon, IL the daughter of Olen and Susanna (Edwards) Farris. She was a graduate of Mattoon High School, class of 1966. She married Gary L. Deckard on September 3, 1967, in Mattoon. Kathy was a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, reading, spending time with her family, volunteering at the Children's Museum, cheering on the Meridian Hawks, and being the best grandmother she could be. She and her husband were active members at the Mount Zion United Methodist Church for over thirty years. Surviving are her husband Gary L. Deckard of Mount Zion; daughters: Amanda (Chris) Bart of Clive, IA and Melinda Deckard of Decatur; granddaughters: Madeline Bart and Eloise Bart, both of Clive, IA; sister: Virginia (Rex) Brown of Mattoon; sister-in-law: Anita Bruce of Sullivan and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother: Olen Edward "Ed" Farris, and brother-in-law: Gary Bruce.
