John G Yagen Obituary (1924 - 2014)

John G. Yagen, 89, of Bradenton, FL and formerly of Chicago, passed away at 3:45 A.M. on Tuesday (Jan. 7, 2014) at Decatur Memorial Hospital. A memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday (Jan. 10, 2014) at Lampstand Church, Decatur. Family is being served by Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Memorials can be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or donor's choice. John was born on August, 8, 1924 in Chicago, IL the son of John Theodore and Bertha (Dordel) Yagen. He married Josephine Evola on July 28, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1990. He was a member of Lampstand Church. John proudly served in the U.S. Navy and served during WWII as a gunner's mate on the USS Orizaba. John worked for Daybar & York Tool as a tool & die maker and design manager. He also ran a tune up shop as a hobby. He then retired to Bradenton, FL in 1984 and enjoyed spending time golfing. John had a big heart and enjoyed fixing all of his neighbor's mechanical issues. Surviving are his children: James (Marjean) Yagen and Sharon (Jeffrey) Viccone all of Decatur; grandchildren: Rebecca (Tim) Witter, Amanda (Jake) Durbin and Bradley (Jackie) Sliz; step-grandchildren: Elisha Viccone and Jeffrey Viccone, Jr.; great granddaughter's: Desiree, Brooklyn and Lindzi; great grandson: Benjamin; sister: Nan Long of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Roseanne and sister Ruth Kellogg.
