Jerry Lee "Doc" Nihiser Obituary (1949 - 2016)

Jerry Lee "Doc" Nihiser 67, of Mattoon, IL formerly of Mt. Zion, IL passed away at 10:00 p.m., Thursday, October 27, 2016. A service to celebrate Doc's life will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion, IL. The family will gather to receive friends beginning at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday evening until service time at the funeral home. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com. Doc was born September 15, 1949, in Decatur, IL the son of Dale and Jean (Voltenburg) Nihiser. Doc had served in the US Navy. He was a retired Engineer from Norfolk and Southern Railroad. Doc was an accomplished Bass guitar player and had enjoyed a career in playing in many area bands in central Illinois and in the Terre Haute, IN areas. Most recently he played with the Van Whalen band. Surviving are his children: Jeremy Nihiser (Lacy) of Dundee, FL, Justin Nihiser (Kayla) of Mattoon, IL and Kelly Embry (Bob Dennison) of Peoria, IL; mother: Jean Nihiser of Decatur, IL; fiancee: Peg Thomas of Paris, IL; brothers: Dale Nihiser (Ruth) of Decatur, IL, Steve Nihiser of Maroa, IL, and Danny Nihiser (Tina) of Savannah, GA; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his father.
