J Norman Jordan Obituary (2013) - Blue Mound, Illinois

J. Norman Jordan, 88, of Blue Mound, IL died Thursday (Jan. 24, 2013). A service to celebrate Norman's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 27, 2013) at Zion Chapel United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Saturday at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Blue Mound. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Boody, IL. Memorial contributions may be directed to Zion Chapel United Methodist Church. Mr. Jordan was born on May 24, 1924 in Shelby County, the son of Gregory and Hazel Wilson Jordan. He graduated from Moweaqua High School in the class of '42 and was a World War II Army veteran. He was married to Eleanor Adamson, also of Moweaqua for 66 years. Norman was a retired farmer and was involved in many community, church, and farm organizations. He was elected to the Blue Mound School Board and served as board secretary. As a member of Zion Chapel United Methodist Church, Mr. Jordan served as Church Board Chairman, Finance Chairman and Building Fund Chairman. He was also coordinator and chef of the church's Mother-Daughter Banquet for 32 years. Norman was on the Macon County Farm Bureau Board for 10 years and served as President for 5 years. He helped originate the first Macon County Prime Timers organization. He also was a member of the University of Illinois Soybean Board, the Macon County Corn-Soy Board, ASCS committee, Farm Land Assessment Committee and the Richland Ag Advisory Board. Norman and Eleanor were the 2007 Grand Marshalls of the Blue Mound Fall Festival and Mr. Jordan was the Fall Festival Chicken Supper Chairman for over 20 years. Mr. Jordan was a talented high school athlete in basketball and baseball and continued sports for many years in softball, bowling and golf. Surviving is his wife: Eleanor Jordan of Blue Mound, IL; daughter: Linda Corrington and her husband Phil; son: Dwight Jordan and his wife Kari; brothers: Marvin Jordan and his wife Betty of Moweaqua, IL and Paul Jordan of Sun Lake, AZ; sister: Florence Ann Wooters of Moweaqua, IL; grandchildren: Jennifer Corrington Whittington, Alissa Corrington Werner, Greg Jordan, Ellie Jordan and Jeff Jordan; great grandchildren: James, Sophie, Luke, Aaron, Andrew and Owen.
