Ines Elizabeth (Gorden) McLaughlin Obituary (1928 - 2015)

Ines Elizabeth (Gorden) McLaughlin, 87, of Blue Mound, IL died on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL. A service to celebrate Ines' life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Blue Mound. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ines will be laid to rest next to her husband Harold in Hall Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church of Blue Mound or Gowin Parc in Taylorville. Ines was born on February 11, 1928 in Moweaqua, IL, the daughter of Earl L. and Pearl G. (Mouche) Gorden. She married Harold Revis McLaughlin on November 17, 1948. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2005. After graduating from Blue Mound High School in 1946, Ines went to summer school in Normal, IL to obtain an emergency teaching certificate. She began her teaching career as a country school teacher in one room school houses in the fall of 1946. Her first school was Cherry Grove located between Boody and Elwin and the second school was Pleasant View located one and a half miles south of Blue Mound. From 1948 to 1952 she taught the fifth grade class at the Blue Mound Elementary School. In 1952, Ines and Harold moved to the farm 3 1/2 miles west of Blue Mound where they resided the rest of their lives. For many years Ines helped with the farm by doing a variety of jobs from driving grain trucks to helping with the cattle business. In 1973 Ines and Harold opened McLaughlin's Home Killed Beef on route 48 in Blue Mound. She retired in January of 2000. Ines was a member of the First Christian Church of Blue Mound and the Rotary International in Blue Mound. Ines is survived by her sister: Mary E. Walton and her husband Harold of Whitehall, PA; daughter: Phyllis A. Herring and her husband Thomas of Blue Mound, IL; son: Dale W. McLaughlin and his wife Patricia of Blue Mound, IL; five grandchildren: Keith Herring and his wife Margaret Stringfellow of Seattle, WA, Brad McLaughlin and his wife Tiffany of Decatur, IL, Paul Herring of Pensacola, FL, Melissa and Derek McLaughlin of Blue Mound, IL; many nieces and nephews also survive. Ines was a kind, generous person who loved her family. Her sense of humor and sweet personality will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
