Harry Alden Rule Jr. Obituary (1930 - 2014)

Harry Alden Rule, Jr., 83, of Moweaqua, IL went to the Lord at 6:48 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 18, 2014) at Moweaqua Nursing & Retirement Center. A service to celebrate Harry's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2014) at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Macon. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday. Harry will be laid to rest next to his wife in Westside Cemetery, Moweaqua with the Illinois State Police Honor Guard and Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be directed to Moweaqua Fireman's Club, Moweaqua EMT Service or Moweaqua Peace Meals. Harry was born on June 9, 1930 near St. Elmo, IL, the son of Harry and Mary (Heldenbrand) Rule. Harry lived his early years in St. Elmo, IL. He joined the United States Navy in 1948 serving proudly until 1952. He married June Hobler on October 17, 1951 in Vandalia, IL. After he left the military he worked in the oil fields in and around St. Elmo and Flora. After leaving the oil fields, he, June and his daughter Vicki moved to Decatur, where he worked for General Transfer Company. Harry and June came to Moweaqua in 1958, when he became an Illinois State Trooper. He served the State of Illinois for 25 years before retiring in 1982. During Harry's career in the ISP he was fondly looked upon and had many memories of his service. After retirement from the ISP, Harry and June spent many summers mowing yards and cemeteries. Harry was a tinkerer and enjoyed working on lawn mowers and small engines. He was also a great teacher to his four grandsons. He was a member of VFW Post 2705 Moweaqua Memorial Post, Moweaqua American Legion Post 370, where he served many posts in both organizations, he was also a member of the DAV and Fraternal Order of Police. He leaves two daughters: Vicki Lyn (Mike) Stryker and Robin Diane Tolly; four grandsons: Darin (Tara) Hennings, Scott (Bridgette) Hennings, Brice (Monica) Hennings and William Alden Stryker all of Moweaqua, IL; four great granddaughters: Ashlyn, Jadyn, Jillian and Lauren; one great grandson Easton due in May.
