Garland Henry Shipp Obituary (1936 - 2013)

Garland Henry Shipp, 77, of Mt. Zion, Illinois passed away at 5:45 a.m., Friday December 20, 2013 in Mt. Zion, IL A service to celebrate Garland's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 23, 2013 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com. Garland was born in Clay County, Illinois on February 8, 1936, the son of Ernest and Marguerite Hawn. He graduated from North Clay High School. He met and married Betty Wagner on December 25, 1955. Garland served in the United States Army in the 101st Airborne from 1955 until 1959. He was a general contractor in the Mt. Zion area for almost thirty years. He worked for the Mt. Zion School District as a school bus driver for fifteen years. He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife: Betty of Mt. Zion; sons: Kevin (Shelley) Shipp of Millstadt, Brad (Lisa) Shipp of Philo, and Todd Shipp of Mt. Zion; daughter: Sheree Demith of Champaign; grandchildren: Katie (Brian) Fabbro, Cameron Holeman-Shipp, Madison Grohne, Spenser Demith, Kailyn Demith, Megan Shipp, and Paige Shipp; great-granddaughters: Keaton and Emerson Fabbro; sisters: Rosalie (Gene) Leonard of Louisville, Wilma Daugherty of Louisville, Lois Frost of Altamont, and Barb (Reno) Blackshire of Mt. Zion. He is preceded in death by his parents.
