Evelyn Jewel Bruce Obituary (1918 - 2013)

Evelyn Jewel Bruce, 95, of Mt. Zion, passed away at 8:50 a.m., Monday, July 1, 2013 in The Glenwood Supportive Living Facility. A service to celebrate Evelyn's life will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 5, 2013 at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion, IL with Pastor Jack Pitzer officiating. Evelyn will be laid to rest next to her husband at North Fork Cemetery, Decatur. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Friday morning until service time. Evelyn was born January 6, 1918, in Decatur, IL the daughter of John and Fern (Snyder) Troesch. She married Kenneth F. Bruce Sr. on August 5, 1939. He preceded her in death in May of 1974. She was a retired Director of Fundraising for Illinois Lung Association. She was a 1936 graduate of Decatur High School and a member of Lampstand Church. She went on to further her education by attending Richland Community College. Surviving is her son: Kenneth Bruce Jr. of Mt. Zion; daughter: Patricia Toole and her husband Gary of Evergreen, CO; brother: Jack Troesch of Decatur; sister: Dorothy Horsley of Midland, TX; grandchildren: Kendra Sloan and her husband Shane of Decatur, Kalin Bruce and his wife Leigh Ann of Decatur, Mark Toole and his wife Mary of Greensboro, NC, and Sara Miller and her husband Kevin of Evergreen, CO; nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren also survive. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, daughter-in-law: Carol, one brother and three sisters. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of The Glenwood for all the care and compassion shown to Evelyn and the family.
