E. Dwight Stortzum Obituary (1944 - 2016)

E. Dwight Stortzum 72, of Decatur, IL passed away at Monday, June 20, 2016, in Oak Hill Hospital, Brooksville, Florida. The family will gather to receive friends Sunday, June 26, 2016, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. Private graveside service in Point Pleasant Cemetery, Long Creek. The family suggests memorials be made by encouraging family and friends to donate blood at your local chapter or to STARR Program, (School for Therapeutic and Recreational Riding.) Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com. Dwight was born June 11, 1944, in Effingham County, IL the son of Erwin W. and Corene (Cameron) Stortzum. He married Marcella Schmohe on June 17, 1962. Dwight retired from Bridgestone Firestone Tire & Rubber Company after thirty years of service. He went on to become a partner and operator of EZ Lawn Care for twenty-one years. Dwight was involved in many aspects of the community having served as a former Trustee for the Village of Mt. Zion and had served on the Village's recycling committee. He had served as President of the University of Illinois Extension Advisory Board and as chairman of the U of I Master Gardening scholarship. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Lion's Club having served as a president, a recipient of the Mt. Zion Lion of the Year award, and a past president and trustee of the Mt. Zion Park Foundation. Dwight served as a Mt. Zion Lutheran Church youth group leader, and volunteered at the School of Therapeutic & Recreational Riding (STARR). He served as the past administrator and treasurer and was currently the Junior Governor of the Brooksville Moose Lodge #1678 in Brooksville, FL. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Weeki Wachee, FL. Dwight volunteered with the American Red Cross in their Mt. Zion blood drives. Surviving are his wife: Marcella of Decatur, IL and Spring Hill, FL; daughters: Diana S. Pittman and her husband Shawn of Farmer City and Janet K. Burns and her husband Michael of San Diego, CA; siblings: Nancy Stortzum of Teutopolis, IL, Ronald Stortzum and his wife Patty of Dietrich, IL, and Pamela Jennings and her husband Kris of Hilliard, Ohio; six grandchildren: Amy Jump of Weldon, IL, Brandon Best of Decatur, IL, Michael (Christine) Jump of Decatur, Ashley (Javan) Bristow of Wimauma, FL, Clint (Pamela) Curry of Panama, FL and Courtney (Cody) Haradon of San Diego, CA; three great-grandchildren: Braylen Tolen, Warren Tolen and Adrianna Jump; and one step great-grandson: Hunter Lawson. Also, surviving is Dwight's special canine friend: Rusty. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law: Leo E. Schmohe.
