Dixie Lee Rucker Obituary (1936 - 2016)

Dixie Lee Rucker 79, of Mt. Zion, IL passed away 11:50 a.m., Wednesday, April 20, 2016, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, IL. A service to celebrate Dixie's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2016, in Pilgrim Lutheran Church, Decatur, IL with Rev. William Abbott and Rev. Brock Abbott co-officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion and from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church on Tuesday morning. Memorials may be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com. Dixie was born October 25, 1936, in Decatur, IL the daughter of Edward Clare and Edna Mae (Hudson) Sullivan. She married James Rucker in 1982. He preceded her in death on August 19, 1995. Dixie began her work career with the Mt. Zion State Bank and retired from the bank at Prairie State Bank and Trust in Mt. Zion after forty-five years of service. She was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church. She was an accomplished pianist and for years served as a church organist in the Mt. Zion area. She enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her flower gardens. She loved being with her family. Surviving are her sisters: Joyce Ames and her husband Ronald of Mt. Zion and Linda Workman and her husband Ted of Decatur; brother: William Sullivan and his wife Sandra of Lynchburg, VA; step daughter: Lori Knapp and her husband Curt of Decatur; step son: James T. Rucker of Decatur; five step grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
