Catherine Mary "Peg" Zucco Obituary (1913 - 2016)

Catherine Mary "Peg" Zucco, 102, of Mt. Zion passed away peacefully in her sleep March 2, 2016 at the Glenwood Assisted Living Facility where she had resided for the past seven years. Peggy was born March 6, 1913, in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence and Isabel (McKenzie) Fundy. She married Orville Mulverhill in 1929. He preceded her in death in 1939. She married Anthony Zucco, Sr. on April 11, 1942. He preceded her in death on June 14, 1978. Peggy loved her family, her friends, and her home in Mt. Zion. She worked several cashier jobs in Mt. Zion after moving there in 1951. She started at Mt. Zion Hardware on Main Street, went from there across the street to the K & N Grocery Store, then moved with them to the new Ken's Grocery Store on Route 121, and finally retired in her 70's from the Cardinal Liquor Store. She loved interacting with her friends and customers, and she usually had a joke to share. Peggy loved to bowl, greatly enjoyed her trips to Las Vegas with her good buddy Jean Barber, and could not wait to get to the bingo hall. She loved music, loved to dance, and always enjoyed a party. She is fondly remembered by many of her children's friends for all the cookies, brownies, and pizzas that were baked in her kitchen. She leaves behind her son Anthony J. Zucco and his wife Jody of Ladoga, Indiana, daughter Mary L. Wortman and husband Michael of Decatur, son-in-law Virgil Gericke of Osage Beach, Missouri, and grandchildren Robert C. Mulverhill, Jr. and wife Laure of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Rebecca A. Schniepp and husband Mark and Eva S. Mulverhill of Niceville, Florida, Mike Gericke and wife Kim of Osage Beach, Missouri, Scott Gericke of St. Louis, Missouri, Douglas Zucco and wife Susie of Jamestown, Indiana, Cathy Jean McGuinness of Ladoga, Indiana, Kelli McInerney and husband Mark of Mt. Zion, Illinois, Eric Wortman and Evan Wortman of Denver, Colorado, sister-in-law Dorothy Fundy of Iron River, Wisconsin, 18 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters, both husbands, her son Robert Mulverhill, Sr. and his wife Mary Ann, her step-daughter Kaye Gericke, and her great grandson Anthony Zucco. The family would like to express their most heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the Glenwood for their loving care of "Peggy Sue" during her stay with them. She had a wonderful home there, and we are so thankful for the concern for her well being shown by both the staff and residents. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday afternoon, March 7th, at 3 p.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Father John Burnette presiding. Visitation will be an hour before Mass begins. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Mt. Zion Foundation for Quality Education. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion is assisting the family with the arrangements.
