Billy O. Peel Obituary (1927 - 2016)

Billy O. Peel 88, of Decatur, IL passed away at 10:55 a.m., Sunday, October 2, 2016, in Decatur Memorial Hospital. A memorial service to celebrate Billy's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Zion Christian Church. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com. Billy was born October 5, 1927, in Paris, IL the son of Everett O'Neill and Bessie Mae (Scott) Peel. Billy served in the US Army and was a W.W. II veteran. Billy retired in 1990 from General Motors Corporation. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Billy loved animals and enjoyed feeding the birds. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Billy married Patricia A. Sprouls on January 7, 1945. She preceded him in death on July 4, 1992. He later married Judy I. Snoddy on March 20, 1999. Surviving is his wife: Judy of Decatur; daughters: Shirley Turner of Mt. Zion, Karen Brown (Ken) of Decatur, and Donna Richardson of Cincinnati, OH; sons: Larry Peel (Debbie) of Terre Haute, IN and Michael Peel of Champaign; step-son: Mitch Swim (Christine) of Mahomet; brother: Richard Peel (Penny) of North Carolina; grandchildren: Stacey Turner of Canyon City, CO, Molly Turner of Mt. Zion, Karrie Kalmes (Dan) of Bloomington, Cortney Smetanko (Brad) of Heyworth, Brian Richardson (Lauren) of Cincinnati, Jeff Peel (Tara) of Iowa, Garrison Peel of Chrisman, Jared Peel of Marshall, Shannon Bastian (Keith) of Princeton, IN, Shaun Woolard of Marshall, Hannah Swim of Mahomet and Megan Swim of Mahomet; also surviving are nine great-grandchildren. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, brother: John; sister: Charity Singley, grandson: Chase Peel; sons-in-law: Gaylan Turner and Danny Richardson.
