Anthony P. "Tony" Covey Obituary (1968 - 2016)

Anthony P. "Tony" Covey 47, of Decatur, IL passed away in his residence at 8:06 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2016. Services to celebrate Tony's life will begin with the family receiving friends for visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2016, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. A memorial service will be at 1:00p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery, Decatur. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family or Community of Christ Church. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com. Anthony was born on May 25, 1968, in Decatur, the son of Ronald and Ruth Ann Covey. He preferred to be called "Tony. " He also was affectionately known as "Brutus" by his co-workers at Eagle Food Store in South Shores where he had worked as a night supervisor for fifteen years. He went on to work as a metal fabricator, first for Green Valley, Mt. Zion and later for Aura Mfg., Decatur. Due to physical limitations he had not been able to work recently. Tony was a loving compassionate person, a talented artist, and loved reading. His hobbies included blacksmithing, gourmet cooking, shooting guns, designing and making things, and hiking in the woods. He had a great love of nature and had a wide range of knowledge on many subjects. He leaves his parents: Ron and Ruth Ann Covey of Decatur; brothers: Michael (Dana) Covey of Sterling, IL and Scott Covey of Gardner's, PA. He also leaves his nephew: Ben Covey of Sterling and his niece: Ella Covey of Sterling, a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins who he loved as brothers and sisters, many close friends, and his beloved dog: Raisin.
