Alan L. Bentz Obituary (1933 - 2018)

Alan L. Bentz 84, of Decatur, IL went to meet his heavenly father at 4:06 a.m., on February 9, 2018, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 3, 1933, in Decatur, the son of Arthur "Buck" and Opal (Henderson) Bentz. He served his country for four years in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He then married the love of his life, Linda (Deckard) on July 4, 1958. Alan worked for AE Staley Company and retired in 1988. After retirement he loved spending his time with his wife and grandkids. He is survived by his wife: Linda; daughters: Avida Bruns, Anita Helm (Gerald), Allinda Bentz, and his son: Alan Bentz; grandchildren: Melissa (Kitchens) Hector (Shane), James Kitchens, Jessica (Bruns) Garrett (Clint), Joshua Bentz (Rachel), Ben Kitchens (Savannah), and Jared Bentz (Alex); great-grandchildren: Austin, Logan, and Hadley; and his siblings: Jerry Bentz (Marilyn), and Arlene Snyder. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his sister: Joyce Disney and two brothers-in-law. A service to celebrate Alan's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. The family will receive friends for visitation Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lester Barnett Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Alzheimer's Research, American Heart Association, or First General Baptist Church where he was a faithful member.
