Thomas J. Westwater 74, of Decatur, IL passed away at 2:20 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2019, in Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2019, in Holy Family Catholic Church, with Rev. Joseph Molloy celebrating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion, IL. A vigil prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m., Friday afternoon at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bement Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Macon County Honor Guard and the US Army Honors Team. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com.
Tom was born June 22, 1944, in Evergreen Park, IL the son of James and Helen (Emery) Westwater. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam era being stationed in Korea. He married Rebecca A. Boyd on September 11, 1965. Tom had worked as a Locomotive Engineer for Norfolk and Southern Railroad. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Tom was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church and most recently a member at Holy Family Catholic Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife: Rebecca of Decatur; son: Brent Westwater of Collinsville, IL; daughter: Ann Westwater-Tran of Fullerton, CA; sister: Jeanne Westwater of Fellsmere, FL; grandchildren: Britte Mackenzie Westwater, Alexis Sabryn Westwater, Garrett Westwater, Quinn Tran, Dillon Tran and Aidan Tran; great-granddaughter: Ava Westwater.
Brothers and sisters-in-law: Valerie (Toby) Ellegood of Decatur, Patricia (Doug) Alessandrini of Layfette, IN, Michael (Rita) Boyd of Decatur, Dell Boyd of Decatur, and Jacqueline Boyd of Decatur. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
