Obituary for Mary C Highley

Mary C. Highley 91, of Decatur, IL went to be with her Lord and Savior, at 11:36 p.m., Friday, June 7, 2019, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, IL.

A memorial service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2019, in Antioch Christian Church, Decatur, IL with Pastor Steve Devore officiating. Inurnment will be in Brown Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation Monday evening June 10th, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion is assisting the family with services. Memorials may be directed to Antioch Christian Church. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family at www.dawson-wikoff.com.

Mary was born July 13, 1927, in Macon County, IL the daughter of John and Margaret (Albers) Barnes. She married Charles E. Highley on June 1, 1947. He preceded her in death on August 7, 2004. Mary was a faithful member and devoted servant of Antioch Christian Church. She was an avid quilter having done many homemade quilts for family members. She also enjoyed knitting, making many sweaters for her grandchildren. She cherished her time with family and friends enjoying cards and other games with all of them.

Surviving are her children: Mike Highley (Wendy) of Springfield, MO, Pat Highley (Debbie) of Shelbyville, IL, Carolyn Hanson (Mike Stevens) of Decatur, Kevin Highley (Cathy) of Decatur, IL; brothers: Bill Barnes of Decatur, Jack Barnes (Karen) of Decatur, Rick Barnes (Sandy) of Mesa, AZ, Kent Barnes of Oreana, IL, and Ron Barnes of Peoria, IL; sisters: Bev Carter of Decatur and Phyllis Yunker of Decatur; brother and sister-in-laws: Sara Field, Rose Ellen Doore, Louise Boline, and Charlie Blankenship; grandchildren: Michael Highley (Kendra), Catherine Kruger (Ryan), Tim Highley (Missy), Kris Highley (fiance Mandi), Mindy Amos (Lance), Carrie Atwood (Jerrod), Lucas Highley (Grace), Jes Younghouse (Kurt) and Alex Highley; sixteen great-grandchildren; special friends: Joy Buechele and Leona Palat also survive.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, and her five sisters.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to all the medical staff who cared for our Mom. Mom will always be remembered as an unselfish servant to all.
