Marie Srnka, 100, of Moweaqua, IL passed away on Friday, January 04, 2019 at Imboden Creek Living Center.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Marie’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Macon with Pastor Steve Ingram of South Shores Christian Church officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Marie will be laid to rest in West Side Cemetery, Moweaqua. Marie was born in Erie, PA on October 2, 1918 to Frank and Leona Schnobel. She had five brothers and four sisters. After a six month courtship and most of it roller skating, she married Delmar Srnka on June 27, 1938 in Decatur, IL. He preceded her in death on June 28, 1991. They both loved to roller skate and were very good at it. They had three daughters, Leona Srnka, Nancy (Jerry) Davis and Delene (John) Pulley. They had five grandchildren. Melinda Nicol, Teresa (Tom) Goodrich, Gene Patheal, Todd (Suzy) Davis, Tiffani (Brad) Eisenhauer, Lori (Duane) Polley and one step granddaughter, Alicia Boyce, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Marie has one surviving brother, Charles Schnobel.
Delmar and Marie moved to Moweaqua, IL in 1953. There she worked as a cook for the Moweaqua School District for several years but mostly was a homemaker who loved to sew and garden. She had a passion for growing things and was quite good at it. Marie loved her flowers and watching the birds and always had a filled bird feeder. She was a member of South Shores Christian Church in Decatur.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, both her parents, four sisters and four brothers.
The family would like to give special thanks to Imboden Creek Living Center for the care and kindness they showed her while she lived there. Also, a special thank you to Barb Brinkoetter (Angels Among Us) her primary compassionate caregiver in the evenings. Mom considered her a friend.
