Obituary for Forrest W Landreth

Forrest W. Landreth 68, of Decatur, IL passed away at 7:27 p.m., Sunday, September 1, 2019, in Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO.

The family will celebrate Forrest’s life by receiving friends Friday evening, September 6, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for visitation at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. in the Findlay Cemetery, Findlay, IL. Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion is assisting the family with services. Memorials may be made in Forrest’s memory to: Central A & M High School Athletic Program, Mt. Zion High School Athletic Program or Swingsations, or The Mt. Zion United Methodist Church or CICIM. Forrest was born September 24, 1950, in Axtell, KS, the son of Bill and Twyla (Van Dorn) Landreth. He married Cathy Roney on June 5, 1971.
Forrest was retired from Illinois Power, Records Department. He also worked for many years as an announcer for WXFM radio station in Mt. Zion. Forrest was an Eagle Scout. He had attended the Academy of Broadcasting in Kansas City, MO. Forrest was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and was active in the Men’s group, CICIM, and is now singing in the heavenly choir.
He was well known as “The Voice” announcing Mt. Zion boy’s basketball for over twenty years. He enjoyed golfing, the St. Louis Cardinals, and cheering on the Illini and Kansas Jay-Hawks.

Surviving are his loving wife of forty-eight years: Cathy of Decatur, IL adored by his daughters, son-in-law and grandchildren: Tatum Michele Plain and her children: Maddix George and Ava Grace all of Moweaqua, IL and Megan Elizabeth Holt and her husband Nathan and their children: Reddington Forrest, Milannah Joy and Georgia Rae all of Mt. Zion, IL; brother: Travis Landreth of Axtell, KS. Also surviving are Phileta Coventry, Donna and Jerry Woodard, Paulette and Dick Gregg, Jay Roney, Yvonne and Glenn Bell, Lee and Kay Roney, and Roy Roney; Many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.

Forrest was preceded in death by his parents, and in-laws: Leo and Bonnie Roney.

Forrest had a calming spirit with a quirky sense of humor and will be terribly missed by all his family and friends. I-L-L.
